YMCA of Central Stark County

To put Christian Principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.

Stretch Yourself in more ways than one.

When you think of the Y what comes to mind?
For me it automatically brings a smile to my face, see it is where my children first learned to swim. And now they are on the basketball courts practicing their shots, or in the Wellness Center next to me teaching me to use the elliptical machines. It is a place where my family enjoys going together and with friends; it is a great way for us to beat cabin fever during these blustery winter days!

Cathy joined the Y in her 40’s and used the wellness equipment by herself without any instruction. The Y staff connected Cathy to the Group exercise classes and she found that she could push much harder and accomplish more. Cathy has made several friends through the Y group exercise classes, and now in her 50’s, feels better than ever.

One of our Child Care employees felt the Y was a place for outreach in the community. And she shared her story. “We provided the families from Child Care a Thanksgiving dinner complete with all the trimmings. They invited grandparents, aunts and uncles and siblings to sit down after a long day and enjoy a feast. I saw a parent bow his head and say a simple prayer of thanks for a meal that they would not otherwise have, in that moment my life was impacted. I was not only humbled but realized the powerful impact of something we take for granted on a daily basis."

For each one of this the Y will invoke a different picture for some it is the place to be encouraged during a group exercise class, for others it is a place to feel connected to the community, what is it for you?
