5TH EDITION LIFEGUARD CLASS
In the fall, 2011, after extensive research and testing, Y-USA launched its new lifeguard program. The Y-USA has taken the time to fully review all aspects of the YMCA Lifeguard Program with aquatic best practices and Y aquatic staff across the country in terms of quality, effectiveness, and flexibility to create a 5th Edition Lifeguard Class.
The Lifeguard Program has important new features:
• An increased focus on prevention and recognition of drowning incidences and decision-making skills means faster and more effective emergency responses
• A learner-centered approach with integration of e-learning that enhances the learner experience and reinforces concepts throughout the curriculum and across platforms (classroom, pool, e-learning) for improved knowledge retention
• The inclusion of CPR Pro/AED, First Aid and Emergency Oxygen Administration through the American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI), means one-stop shopping for program participants
The Lifeguard Program is a scenario-based training developed over the last four years with input from YMCA and other aquatic professionals to ensure that lifeguards - the ones we hire and the ones we certify - are the best in the business.
