Jean Martin was 60 years old when she became a member of the Y in September 2003. She is the youngest of 10 children, all with a history of heart disease, diabetes, hypertension and high cholesterol. Jean chose exercise as a way to maintaining a healthier lifestyle. Since taking a variety of the fitness classes we offer, her balance has improved, her blood pressure is normal and she is maintaining a healthy weight.
Several years ago she was diagnosed with Osteopenia, a condition that refers to one’s bone density. Weight bearing exercise is recommended for prevention and treatment of Osteopenia*1. Jean decided to be proactive about this condition and became very dedicated to weight bearing exercises, in fact due to her dedication, her bone density is now back to a normal level.
The idea of not being dependent on medication has provided Jean with the motivation to keep on moving and working hard!
