"Only by giving are you able to receive more than you already have." - Jim Rohn
Every day at the YMCA of Central Stark County we hear stories of how the kindness of others has impacted the lives of an individual or family. Jen, a REFIT instructor at the Lake Community YMCA, shared a wonderful story with us from one of her class participants, Kristen McGee.
"2017 was a very difficult year for me. Due to some circumstances in my family, I was in a very dark place - to the point where I did not want to get out of bed and I was very depressed. While I still have some things to work though, REFIT has been such a great thing for me. I am so thankful that I found it and decided to come and it's because of Jen the instructor that I have stayed. Her energy and pep, encouragement and cheerful smile make for such a fun, positive environment. I know that's what REFIT is all about and Jen embodies it perfectly. I get to dance again (I danced for about 10 years when I was a kid...I wasn't very good at it, but I loved it) and I get worship at the same time. I love that so much! I have a lot of work to do with my eating habits, but I am making improvements one step at a time, or, one cha-cha at a time, or one kick-ball-change at a time! I still have difficult days when the couch wants to be my best friend, but at least 2 to 3 days per week I have something to look forward to. I know that I can kick some butt and feel great by the end of the day.
I really wanted to share this story to let you all know how much this class and the YMCA has meant to me."
Every day, the YMCA gives our community the support it needs to learn, grow and thrive. From disease prevention to child care, youth sports to group exercise, reaching personal fitness goals to building character, everything we do helps to strengthen the lives of the people who live here.
