Confident Kids Today, Engaged Adults Tomorrow

Children are the world’s most valuable resource and its best hope for the future. – John F. Kennedy

Every summer, our Day Campers get to experience the best of science, arts and crafts, theater, field trips, cooking, swimming, team building and games – all in a safe and engaging environment. One of our campers, Daniya has a very special bond with Jenna, a coordinator of our Trailblazers group, for kids in grades 3-5. Daniya even lovingly calls Jenna, “Baby J” and insists she’s the “boss!” The two have been close since day one - spending the summer days together listening to music, using the walkie talkies and hanging out. Daniya has even requested Jenna get a raise!

Children are like sponges—they watch and absorb knowledge, skills and values from everything and everyone around them. At the Y, we believe the values and skills learned early on are vital building blocks for quality of life and future success.  Bonds like Daniya and Jenna’s are not unusual here at the Y. We hire positive, caring adults who will be role models for our campers and our Before and After School participants. Staff must pass a background check including: FBI and BCI fingerprints, National Child Abuse Registry and National and State Sex Offender Registry. All of our staff are trained in Child Abuse Recognition and Prevention, CPR, First Aid and Communicable Disease management, as well as specialized professional development.  Most importantly, our staff teach children learn how to be their best selves. That makes for confident kids today and contributing and engaged adults tomorrow.

Jenna is committed to nurturing the potential of every child – and we can’t help but think how this special relationship will help Daniya not only realize who she is, but all that she can achieve.
