CHANGE MAKERS

“If it doesn’t Challenge You, It doesn’t Change You!” – Fred Devito

Life seems to move at such a swift pace now-a-days. Somewhere along the journey you look back and scratch your head wondering, “How did I get here, and where did the time go?” Does this sound familiar?

At times life just happens. One day, you wake up and you find that while taking care of everything else, such as the house, the kids, and your husband; you find that your health has been at the bottom of the list. This happens often enough and the Y is here for you as you start your journey back to health.

One day, several months ago, Fran came in to the Y feeling very depressed because of her weight and health.  She has been insulin dependent for over 30 years. She scheduled an orientation and felt very welcomed by the staff and members. So naturally when they received their Silver and Fit membership the Y was the place she chose to go. Especially since the Y helped her find the right exercise and classes to help her on this journey.

Fran’s husband, Wade, not only joined the Y, but he partnered with her on this journey. Together they have lost a combined 70lbs. And Fran’s doctor reviewed her blood work and said that if she keeps it up, he might take her OFF all her meds, including her insulin. WOW, how exciting!

“Having a place that you feel welcomed at, and your friends are part of helps on this journey” shared Fran.  “Another highlight of my workout time is seeing the little ones when they come in and work out, they encourage me to keep on going.”

“As a Wellness Director at the Y, I am so grateful to be a part of positive change that our members make,” explained Amy Simpkins.  “It brings me great joy to encourage and cheer our members on. To me they are not just members they are family that I want to help succeed!”
