Welcome to the Carroll County YMCA's Health and Wellness Department! We provide a variety of quality programs for all ages and experience levels. Whether you are new to exercise or have years of experience, you are sure to find the perfect program at the Y. The Carroll County YMCA holds a series of races, with one in June, July and August. Age groups will be revised as follows: 10 and under, 11-14, 15-18, 19-22, 23-31, 32-39, 40-47, 48-55, 56-60, 61 and over. The race is split into male and female categories. The top overall finishers in each category will receive a trophy. Medals will be awarded to the top three finishers in each age group within each category. Those who pre-register will receive a T-shirt included in their registration at no extra charge. Additional shirts may be purchased at $7 each for youth sizes and $10 each for adult sizes. Registration begins an hour and a half prior to the start of the race. Pre-register for individual races and save $3 each, or pre-register for the entire series and save $10!
CARDIO BOXING
This is a high-intensity full-body workout incorporating martial arts techniques, boxing moves and strengthening exercises. Recommended for those with fitness experience.
CARDIO POWER MIX
Cardio Power Mix is a high-intensity class incorporating kickboxing, cross-training, boot camp and much, much more. This class is regularly held indoors; however, some outdoor cardio activities may be incorporated when the weather permits. Mats are available for use, or you may bring your own. Recommended for those with fitness experience.
LOW-IMPACT AEROBICS
This is a low-intensity class geared toward those new to fitness or who have not recently participated in aerobics programs. Mats are available for use, or you may bring your own. This class is especially good for those with some fitness experience; however, it is also a good place to start for the motivated beginner!
BUTTS AND GUTS
This is a low-impact, moderate- to high-intensity class incorporating squats, lunges, work with weights and some floor exercises to tone your body. Butts and Guts is not currently on our fitness schedule. Please contact the Y to be added to the interest list, and we will contact you when we re-start the class.
MIX IT UP
Mix It Up is a moderate- to high-impact, high-intensity cardio class incorporating some basic toning exercises. Ideal for those with fitness experience.
ZUMBA®
Zumba is a fast-paced cardio program incorporating Latin and international music and dance. More cardio than toning, this is a great program for both those with fitness experience and beginners.
ZUMBA GOLD®
Zumba Gold is a less-intense version of our regular Zumba classes. It is ideal for active older adults and / or for any person who is new to Zumba or to exercise in general.
SILVERSNEAKERS® MUSCULAR STRENGTH AND RANGE OF MOVEMENT
Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement and activities for daily living. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles and a SilverSneakers ball are offered for resistance. A chair is used for seated and / or standing support.
SENIOR STRENGTH
This class is the next highest intensity level after SilverSneakers MS-RoM. Please note, this class is not affiliated with the SilverSneakers®Fitness Program. A chair is still provided for support; however, most of the exercises are done while standing. The cardio portion of the class is slightly more intense.
YOGA FOR EVERYBODY
Decrease stress and increase flexibility with a number of yoga classes for all experience levels. Mats are available for use, or you may bring your own.
GENTLE YOGA
Gentle Yoga is open to all experience levels and is an especially good option for beginners. Mats are available for use, or you may bring your own.
INTERMEDIATE YOGA
Intermediate Yoga is open to those who have some yoga experience. Mats are available for use, or you may bring your own.
PRIVATE YOGA LESSONS
Private yoga lessons are available. Contact Carol at the Y for additional information.
Drop in for fifteen minutes of ab-work on Wednesday evenings between yoga classes, and on Friday afternoons after yoga.
This is a weight-loss competition at the Carroll County YMCA. The program does not endorse starvation diets or weight-loss supplements. Participants are required to participate in two wellness classes per week, with additional work-out time encouraged. Those in the program will receive access to the Wellness Center and all Health and Wellness classes at no additional charge. There will be weekly meetings and weigh-ins, only one of which may be missed in order to remain eligible for the grand prize.
The Carroll County YMCA will offer two sessions of a Diabetes Education program in 2012. More information will be posted as the programs are finalized. Interested individuals should contact Carol Myers at the Y.
The Carroll County YMCA has several options available for personal training. We have two trainers: Cynthia Hervey and Brook Penrod. Training is available for both individuals and couples. Training is available for members only but is not included in the monthly or annual membership rate. Contact the Y for rates.
