Carroll County YMCA Sports

Welcome to the Carroll County YMCA's Sports Department!  We offer a variety of programs for all ages.  There are traveling and in-house programs for youth, leagues for adults and even programs for kids to participate in with their parents!  Many programs are seasonal with a few offered year-round.  Click a link below for information on a specific program.  Contact the YMCA at 330-627-9622 for additional information.

 

Our Sports Programs:

 

Soccer

RECREATIONAL FALL SOCCER

This program usually begins towards the end of August.  Recreational Fall Soccer is open to boys and girls ages four years through 10 years.  Teams are split into two age groups:  4-6 and 8-10.  Children Age 7 will be placed into whichever age group where they are most needed.  Kids will practice two nights per week, with games being held on Saturday mornings and on one weeknight per week.  Shin guards and socks are required but are not provided by the Y.  Cleats are highly recommended.  (Toe cleats are not permitted.)  Parents will be contacted by a coach once teams are formed.  The Y is always looking for coaches and assistant coaches for this program.  Please let us know if you are interested in helping area youth to learn the game of soccer!

TRAVELING SOCCER

This is a competitive soccer program.  Traveling Soccer is open to boys and girls up to Age 14.  Parents must submit a photo of each child for an identification card and provide the Y with a copy of the child's birth certificate at the time of registration.  Practices will be held in Carrollton, as will a number of games.  Contact Eric at the Y for additional information on this program. 

TRAVELING INDOOR SOCCER

This is a competitive soccer program.  Currently the program is open to those children who have previously participated in the Y's competitive soccer program(s).  The team will practice in Carrollton throughout the week and will play games in Canton on the weekends.

RECREATIONAL INDOOR SOCCER

This is a fast-paced soccer program with no practices--only half-hour games played on the weekends.  This program is open to boys and girls Ages 4-10.  Shin guards and socks are required.  Please wear regular tennis shoes.

INDOOR / OUTDOOR SOCCER CLINIC

This is a one-day, two-hour clinic designed to teach and / or build upon fundamentals for those new to the game or with limited experience.  Regular tennis shoes and shin guards required.  Shirts are not provided for this program.

Football

YOUTH FLAG FOOTBALL

This traveling program is open to kids entering Grades 2 and 3 in the fall.  We have joined with the Minerva and Louisville Ys this year.  Practices will be held two nights per week in Carrollton.  Schedules will be available as soon as possible.  Cleats are recommended. 

CARROLLTON YOUTH FOOTBALL TACKLE FOOTBALL

This traveling program is open to boys entering Grades 3-6 in the fall.  Practice is held throughout the week in Carrollton.  Games are played on weekends.  We participate in the Tri-County Football League.

Martial Arts

TAE KWON DO 

Tae Kwon Do is open to all ages.  The class meets two times per week and provides an opportunity for participants to learn self-discipline while advancing in belt ranks.  Participants may wear whatever they like for practices; however, a full uniform and belt must be worn for testing.  There is an additional fee for both the uniform and each test.  Class is taught by Master Phillip Parker, who has over 30 years of experience in the Martial Arts and over 20 years of teaching experience.  Master Parker was an alternate to the Seoul, Korea Olympics.

Basketball

MIDDLE SCHOOL BASKETBALL

This is an indoor league for kids currently in Grades 7 and 8.  Practices will begin in November, with games beginning later in the winter.  Games will be played at the Louisville, North Canton, Lake and Minerva Area YMCAs.

HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL LEAGUE

This is a traveling league.  Practices begin in November, with games to follow later in the winter.  Practices will be held in Carrollton, with games being held at the Minerva Area YMCA.

MEN'S BASKETBALL LEAGUE

An indoor league for adults.  Teams are limited to ten players.  There are no Y-sponsored practice times available for this program.  Games are held Sundays at the Big Gym.

GIRLS' YOUTH BASKETBALL LEAGUE

This is an indoor league for girls in Grades 4-6.  Practices are held in Carrollton throughout the week.  Teams will participate in the Minerva Youth Basketball League.

Volleyball

VOLLEYBALL FOR BEGINNERS

This is a fundamentals program for girls in Grades 4-8.  Kids will learn the basics and play each other in recreational games.

CO-ED VOLLEYBALL LEAGUE

This league is open to high school students and adults.  It is an indoor league.  There is a maximum of ten players permitted on a team.  Knee pads are highly recommended.

Cheerleading

CARROLLTON YOUTH FOOTBALL CHEERLEADING PROGRAM

This program is open to kids entering Grades 2 through 6 in the fall.  Cheerleaders practice in conjunction with the Carrollton Youth Football Program.  Kids cheer at home games.  Uniforms are not included in the cost of registration.

Gymnastics

MOMMY AND ME GYMNASTICS

This program is open to boys and girls Ages 2 and 3 years.  Kids need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.  Focus is on balance, matwork, tumbling and basic beam work.

BEGINNER AND INTERMEDIATE GYMNASTICS

This program is open to boys and girls with no experience and / or limited gymnastics experience.  Prior participation in Mommy and Me Gymnastics is not required.  Focus will be on the basics for those with no experience and will build on the fundamentals for those with some experience.  Class includes matwork, tumbling, beam and vaultwork.

ADVANCED GYMNASTICS

This program is open to boys and girls with gymnastics experience.  Includes matwork, beamwork, vaultwork and more.
