About Big Brothers Big Sisters

Big Brothers Big Sisters is the nations (and state’s) oldest and largest youth mentoring organization. We are a researched-based, best practice program serving the children of Ohio.

We are HIGHLY Recognized!

We have been recognized by the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) as a Blueprint Program. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) has given its highest designation of Model Program to Big Brothers Big Sisters.

We are GROWING Strong!

Big Brothers Big Sisters agencies in Ohio are leading the way for Big Brothers Big Sisters nationally. We are a leader in changing children’s lives. YMCA Big Brothers Big Sisters has grown 43% in the past 2 years. At the end of 2008, we had 268 matches for the year. We are very proud of our service and our measurable impacts!

We NEED your Support!

We need your support to continue our work to positively shape the lives of children in Stark County. Nationally Big Brothers Big Sisters has over a century of proven success in creating positive friendships that benefit children, volunteers, families, neighborhoods, and communities!

Volunteer Opportunities:

  • Community-Based Mentoring is a program where adult volunteers get together with children between 6 – 15 years old for activities 2-4 times a month. Activities are based on the adult and child’s individual interests such as shooting hoops, playing video games, baking cookies, or just hanging out.
  • School-Based Mentoring has been proven to have significant, positive impact on children. Volunteers 16 or older meet a child at their school for lunch and/or recess or after school. Volunteers assist with school work, play board games, talk, and spend one-to-one time with a child during the school year.
  • Donate your time, skills or money. Contact YMCA Big Brothers Big Sisters to discover more ways and opportunities to make a BIG difference.
  • You don’t have to change your life to impact theirs! Do something Big – become a volunteer!
