The YMCA of Central Stark County was founded in 1866. Today the YMCA of Central Stark County serves nine communities: Alliance, Canton/Canton South, Carroll County, Jackson, Lake Township, Louisville, North Canton, Meyers Lake and Minerva. The YMCA leases additional properties for the YMCA Gymnastics Center, The North Canton YMCA Child Care Center and the YMCA Infant / Toddler Center. Twenty child care and day camp programs are operated at various locations across the county in collaboration with local schools and churches. YMCA Camp Tippecanoe, located in Harrison County, offers residential camping programs each summer.
The YMCA of Central Stark County serves over 90,000 program and membership participants each year. These participants are served by over 800 full and part-time staff. Over 2,700 people volunteer their time every year at the YMCA's as board and committee members or assisting with various programs. Key program areas include child care, camping, youth sports, health & wellness, swimming, teens, families, seniors, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Stark County.
The YMCA of Central Stark County is a place for everyone. The YMCA welcomes and supports kids and families and helps teach the Character Pillars of Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring and Citizenship. The YMCA mission includes the promise of never turning anyone away from a membership or program due to an inability to pay. This is accomplished through donations to the annual Strong Kids Campaign and the United Way. The YMCA's vision is to build strong kids, strong families and strong communities.
