About Us

As the newest member of the YMCA of Central Stark County family, the Meyers Lake YMCA was formed in October of 2008 by combining programs and staff from the Downtown Canton YMCA and the CYC.

The CYC Community Recreation Center heritage began in 1913 when Fr. Timothy Dunn organized youth programming in the community.  After a period of several years and with the collaborations including the Knights of Columbus and the United Way, in 1978 a capital campaign was conducted, raising $2.5 million dollars for a new building.  In November 1978 ground was broken for the new facility and the doors opened in December of 1980.  The CYC welcomed many program directors, Board members, volunteers, and other staff over the years, making it possible to run programs such as youth sports, day camp, aquatics, and senior outreach.

With the merge in 2008 the Meyers Lake YMCA has continued to serve the needs of the community through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all.  Drawing on a long history in the Canton community, the YMCA has incorporated programs such as Activate America, Aquatics, Child Care, Healthy Kids Day, Sports & Recreation Programming as well as Wellness Programs to fulfill our mission.
